Schwarzer earns NJCAA Defensive POTY; Fink and Bilardello join with Gold Glove honors
The NJCAA released their Baseball Gold Glove Awards for the 2016-2017 season, which including several GCAA players garnering Gold Glove accolades.
Andrew College's Chris Schwarzer was named the NJCAA Defensive Player of the Year. Schwarzer was also awarded the Gold Glove from the catchers spot. Georgia Highland's Nick Fink and Devin Bilardello were named Gold Glove first baseman and outfielder respectively.
Schwarzer was nearly perfect behind the plate. He was nearly perfect in keeping runners from trying to advance by throwing out 20 of 21 for a caught stealing percentage(CS) of .952. Schwarzer committed zero errors in 282 total chances in 57 games played. The sophomore also had 37 assists with 6 double plays and only 6 pass balls.
Nick Fink captured his Gold Glove from first base. During the regular season Fink committed only 1 error in 409 chances with 394 put outs(PO) and 15 assists and a .998 fielding percentage for the Chargers.
Georgia Highlands' Devin Bilardello led all NJCAA Gold Glove Outfielders with a perfect .1000 fielding percentage, 112 total chances with 101 put outs, 11 assists and 3 double plays during the regular season.
