Carrollton, GA – Behind a six-run 8th inning, the Golden Knights overcame the LaGrange College JV squad 11-8 here Monday. West Georgia Tech (6-6) found themselves trailing 7-1 heading into the bottom of the 5th. The home team plated three runs that inning, cutting the LaGrange lead to 7-4. Both teams added another run and the Panthers took an 8-5 lead into the 8th prior to the rally. Kenny Bailey (So., Bishop-Oconee Co.) pitched a scoreless 8th to notch his first win while Connor Wilson (So., Newnan-Northgate) slammed the door for his first save.
The win capped off a busy week for the WGTC baseball squad. The Golden Knights split a doubleheader Feb. 17 against Central Alabama Community College, dropping Game 1 by a 7-1 margin before rebounding with a 4-2 win in Game 2. Staying on the road Feb. 19, WGTC dropped an 11-1 decision to Chattahoochee Valley Community College before picking up the home win over LaGrange.
The Golden Knights return to action this weekend. Wallace Community College-Dothan and St. Louis Community College visit Carrollton for games Friday and Saturday. First pitch is with WCC-Dothan is set for 3 p.m. Friday, followed by the match-up with St. Louis. The teams will square-off again Saturday with St. Louis at 3 p.m. followed by WCC-Dothan. Home games are played at Central High School.
