Cavaliers go out in style capturing second straight GCAA Baseball Championship
Darton goes out in style winning the GCAA Baseball Championship. The Cavaliers captured their second straight title defeating South Georgia State 18 -1. The Cavaliers jump out in front early and never looked back.
With eight runs in the first three innings, Cavaliers left no doubt about the eventual outcome.
The offensive juggernaut started in the first inning with an RBI triple by Colton Thomas, an RBI single by Denzell Gowdy and an RBI double by John Cable and a sacrifice fly by Cody Illgenfritz. Darton scored three runs in each of the fourth, sixth and seventh.
Thomas's production included three RBIs on four hits for Cavaliers.
Taylor Ferringer pitched five shutout innings striking out four, while walking none and surrendered five hits.
After a opening round bye for winning the regular season title, the Cavaliers cruised through the tournament with a 6-1 win over Georgia Highlands on day two. Darton then defeated South Georgia State in the winners bracket with a 3- run 10th inning homer by Tyler Morris.
The Championship win against the Hawks secured the #1 seed for the Georgia teams. The Cavaliers will host the East Central District Championship this week with the Hawks the #2 seed from Georgia. Dyersburg State and Walters State are the #1 and #2 seeds respectively from Tennessee.
