Andress throw one-hitter; West Georgia Tech evens series with 7-0 win over South Georgia State
West Georgia Tech ended South Georgia's 11-game winning streak and handed the Hawks their first conference loss of the season.
Andress pitched a gem – his best performance since he has been at West Georgia Tech. The sophomore righty struck out three and walked three while throwing 94 pitches over eight innings of work.
The game was scoreless until West Georgia Tech got on the board with two runs in the home-half of the sixth. The Golden Knights added two more in the seventh on a two-run homer by Andy Mocahbee, and then scored three more times in the eighth to break the game open.
Davis Aiken (2-for-4, RBI), Mocahbee (2-for-5, 2 RBIs) and Trevor Billings (2-for-4, RBI) also had multiple hits for the Golden Knights.
"Offensively we found some holes today and got some hits with runners in scoring position late in the game. Early on our pitching and defense kept us in the game and then we started to hit the baseball in clutch situations over the last three innings. We beat a good team today and we'll have to continue to play well if we want to win the next two over the weekend."
Saturday appears unlikely, but Pratt indicated that he is hopeful to finish the series by Sunday with a doubleheader that afternoon.
