GCAA Region 17 Baseball Tournament
The 2014 regular season has culminated and now the GCAA / Region 17 tournament starts this week. The seeds are set. Georgia Perimeter has garnered the top seed and assured themselves a spot in the East Central District Tournament May 15-17. If GPC wins this week's tournament then they will hold the #1 seed, if not will take the # 2 seed. WED. Day 1
Game 1: ABAC 10 - Gordon 4
Game 2: M. GA 3 - S. GA 1
Game 3: Gordon 4 - S. GA 0
Game 1: ABAC jumped on Gordon with 4 runs in the 2nd and 2 runs in the third to take a 6-0 lead. Gordon answered with 2 runs in the 4th and 1 in the 5th to cut the lead to 6-3. ABAC pushed 2 more runs across the plate to increase the lead to 8-3. Gordon scored a run in the bottom of the 7th to once again cut the lead in half 8-4. ABAC add 2 insurance runs in the top of the 9th to match their biggest lead of the game 10-4. Lane Dixon went 4-5 with a 2 run HR and Christian Miller was 3-6 with a RBI. Hunter Thornton had a 2 RBI single for Gordon. The Highlanders committed 6 errors.
Game 2: M. GA scores 1 run on a single by Spencer Duffie to take a 1-0 lead. The Knights pushed 2 more runs across in the bottom of the 2nd on a 2 RBI double by Will Jones. In the 9th an RBI single by Steve McLeod made the score 3-1. The Hawks couldn't capitalize with the bases loaded and the game ended 3-1.
Game 3: In the elimination game between Gordon and South Georgia the game remained scoreless until the bottom the seventh when a 2 out single scored one to give the Highlanders a 1-0 lead. Tyler Hutch delivered a RBI single to give Gordon a 2-0. Chase Johnson followed with a two out single to right to score 2 more runs increasing Gordon's lead to 4-0. The game finished by the same score.
Thurs. Day 2
Game 1: GPC 6 - ABAC 3
Game 2: M. GA 2 - Darton 1
Game 3:Darton 4 - ABAC 3
Game 1: GPC started game one of day two against ABAC by scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the 1st to take a 4-0 lead on two ABAC errors. The Stallions cut the lead to 4-2 in the top of the fourth. ABAC added another run in the top of the 7th to cut the lead to 4-3. The jaguars add two insurance runs in the bottom of the 8th to again increase the lead to 6-3 and that ended up as the final score.
Game 3: In the second elimination game of the tournament between ABAC and Darton, both teams traded runs for a 1-1 tie. The Stallions added 2 more runs in the in the top of the 3rd to take a 3-1 lead. Darton plates a run in each of the next two innings to tie the game 3-3. Darton manufactured a run in the bottom of the 7th to take a 4-3 lead. And this lead would hold up for the win, eliminating the Stallions.
Fri. Day 3
Game 1: GPC 3 - M. GA 1
Game 2: Darton 3 - Gordon 2
Game 3: Darton 7 -M. GA 4
Game 1: The first game of the day featured the winners bracket between GPC and Middle Georgia. Middle GA opened the game by scoring a run on a RBI single from Spencer Duffie to take a 1-0 lead. GPC tied the game 1-1 in the bottom of the third as a result of a Knights error. The Jaguars claimed their first lead 2-1 on a two out single in the bottom of the fourth. GPC added another run on a two out single to take increase the lead to 3-1. The Jaguars would take the win by the same score.
Game 3: In the last elimination game, Drew Kelley's base hit gave the Knights a 1-0 lead. Drew Taylor followed with another run scoring single to increase the lead to 2-0. Darton plates 1 run on a bloop single and another on a sac fly to tie the game at 2-2. The Cavaliers took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the 3rd. A sac fly by Cole Thompson tied the game at 3-3. Middle Ga took a 4-3 in the top of the 6th. Darton tied the contest at 4 on a Middle GA error. A couple of errors, a base hit and a sac fly gave the Cavs a 7-4 lead in the bottom of the 7th. The game ended with the same score as Darton advances.
Sat. Day 4
Game 1: GPC 13 - Darton 3
Championship Game: The GCAA Championship game featured the #1 seed Georgia Perimeter and the #2 seed Darton State. Both teams will advance to next week's East Central district tournament in Covington, GA. The Jaguars score a run in each of the first 3 innings to take a 3-0 lead. Darton answered with a run in the bottom of the 3rd. GPC exploded for 6 runs including a 2 run homerun by Matt Taylor to increase the lead to 9-1. The Jaguars added another run in the 5th and 6th in to increase the lead to 11-1. Darton gets a run in the bottom of the 6th on back to back doubles, the score now 11-2. The Cavaliers scored a run in the bottom of 7th reducing the lead to 11-3. GPC add 2 runs in the 9th for a 13 -3 lead and the final score.
