Sharpe named NJCAA Baseball POTW
The NJCAA announced that Darton State College sophomore Brandon Sharpe has been chosen as the national player of the week.
Last week Sharpe, a first baseman for the Cavaliers, was responsible for 28 runs and led the Cavs through a perfect 8-0 record.
He batted .536 with two doubles and three triples, had 15 hits and five walks in 28 at-bats, stole three bases, scored 15 runs and hammered 13 RBI.
“He had the most amazing week in the history of Darton baseball,” Darton head baseball coach Scot Hemmings said. “It was unbelievable. He put us on his back and single-handedly carried us all week.”
Sharpe’s efforts also helped Darton enter the NJCAA poll this week at No. 20.
“All the credit should go to the team,” Sharpe said. “My teammates were on base, so they were forced to pitch to me. But everyone was driving the ball; they were knocking me in.”
Hemmings said the player of the week award couldn’t have been given to a better person.
“He has just done everything we’ve ever asked,” he said. “He’s been a leader since his freshman year.”
