Central Georgia Tech gives back with Special Olympics
On August 24, the Central Georgia Technical College Titans and Lady Titans Basketball Team volunteered at the Warner Robins Special Olympics bowling event, which had participants from all over the state of Georgia. It was the first of what will be many events the team will volunteer with this year and the players enjoyed every second of it, from helping set up the event, to handing out pizza, helping keep scores during the bowling sessions, and even dancing with the athletes during the opening ceremonies.
“We had a blast”, said Head Men’s Basketball Coach Reco Dawson. “The building was full of energy and our guys really enjoyed it”.
“This was a great opportunity for our student-athletes to interact with the Special Olympics athletes,” CGTC head women’s coach Jamie Brooks said. “We always talk about being selfless and think about others, and just being able to volunteer and brighten up somebody else’s day is awesome. The athletes that participate in Special Olympics have overcome many obstacles in their lives and continue to each and every day and I think it inspires our own student-athletes in their everyday lives as well.”
